Women’s Department Board of Directors Installation May 15

The Women’s Department of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation will install its new officers for 2008-2009 at a brunch Thursday, May 15 at 10 a.m. at the Jewish Museum of Florida.

Julie Russin Bercow will be installed as President of the Women’s Department. The Executive Board and four area Boards — North, Central, South and Miami Beach — will be installed as well. Read more.

The 70th Annual Meeting of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation will be held Thursday, May 29 at 5:30 p.m. at the Hilton Miami Downtown. Outgoing President Saby Behar will be honored for his service and leadership to the Jewish community.


The North Dade/Aventura Branch of Federation and Michael-Ann Russell Jewish Community Center/Sanford L. Ziff Campus will host a North Dade “Fiske Family Green Day” on Sunday, May 18, designed to call attention to the environment.


The Foundation of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, together with Next Generation Leadership, will present “Lunch with a Legend,” featuring Norman Braman Monday, May 19, at 12 noon at the Federation.


The Professional Advisory Committee of The Foundation of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation hosts its Spring Seminar Thursday, May 22, at the Hilton Miami Downtown. The topic is “The Ethics and Drama of the Law in Contemporary Culture.”


The Foundation of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation will host its Annual Meeting on Thursday, May 22 at 6 p.m. at the Hilton Miami Downtown. Keynote speaker will be noted legacy advisor Tracy Gary.


Join the entire community as we continue to honor Israel 60. Celebrate Yom Yerushalayim (Jerusalem Day) on Sunday, June 1 at the Miami Beach JCC. This FREE event for the whole family runs from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.


The Jewish Volunteer Center of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation will recognize Stella Davidovic and Sara Egozi for their outstanding service to the community by presenting them with its 2008 Outstanding Volunteer Awards.


Jewish American Heritage Month 2008 is being observed during May at the Jewish Museum of Florida with a month-long celebration of noteworthy Jewish-American athletes. The theme of the Museum’s newest exhibit is “Florida Jews in Sports.”


The Network, Federation’s under 40 division, will join the UJC National Young Leadership Summer Mission to Israel, “Get Israel Right,”June 29 to July 8, with hundreds of Jewish professionals from Miami and around the country.


The Jewish Agency for Israel, a Federation overseas partner, will receive the Israel Prize for Lifetime Achievement and Contribution to Israeli Society, the most prestigious award given by the State of Israel, celebrating its 60th anniversary.


Attorneys, legal professionals and members of the judiciary from across South Florida networked and honored three special individuals at Federation’s 24th Annual Judicial Reception.


The Greater Miami Jewish Federation celebrated the 60th anniversary of the founding of the State of Israel by presenting a special performance with The Cleveland Orchestra on March 26 at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts.


Federation’s South Dade Branch will present a Summer Family Mission to Israel June 15-25, 2008. Limited reservations for this mission are now being accepted. Mission Co-chairs: Ike & Miriam Fisher and Jonathan & Suzanne Awner.


Miami’s Jewish community came together on March 9 for “Super Sunday,” Federation’s largest fundraising event of the year. Volunteers participated in the day-long phonathon, and raised $1.3 million for the 2008 Federation/UJA Campaign.


More than 30 North Dade/Aventura elderly Jewish residents experienced the joy of the holiday of Purim with new friends at Beth Torah Benny Rok Campus on March 20, as part of the inaugural Purim Pals program.


Since last summer, Sderot and the surrounding communities have been under the shadow of relentless Kassam rocket attacks. And UJC, the umbrella organization for Jewish federations in North America, has invested more than $21 million in humanitarian aid.
